I enjoy reading the discussions that the facebook group decides to post, so I decided to sign up and introduce myself.

I have been a Party Chief for almost four years now, doing both home builder work and title surveys. Eventually I'd like to leverage my math minor and my survey experience to study and sit for the SIT exam.

I love surveying. Seeing the power of basic math coupled with the amazing things our instruments can do is exciting. I am at survey company number three, mostly because it seems like that is the only way to get a raise, see different equipment, and work on different types of surveys. At each place, I soak up what I can from the experienced chiefs who are willing to share what they know.

Unfortunately, I don't and haven't worked for companies where an RPLS is readily accessible for mentoring, feedback, or questions. I'm quite sure that there is a lot to the trade that I'm completely oblivious to. I've also never done any commercial work; my only experience is with residential properties.

This is my trade. I like talking and thinking about it. I'd like to learn as much as I can, and I want to work toward making it official. To that end, hello.

Welcome! I think you will find an enormous depth and breadth of information and help here...much of which you'd have to have worked yourself for 30 years in the business to garner. Some very smart folks here. A few are funny sometimes too.:D

Being funny is alright but looks aren't everything, you know.

Void,

Welcome, and don't feel bad about changing employers often at this point in your career. Exposing yourself to a variety of surveying specialties is a good step toward your professional arc. Right now, you are soaking up the technical end of things - eventually, you will pick up and apply true knowledge about how to properly apply that technology.
