You got sued *and* had your truck stolen within a week? That's some bad mojo. I hope for your sake that there's nothing to the old saying about bad news coming in threes.
Would you have had OnStar with this truck?
And I thought that having to replace the toilet was a bitch.
At least if someone stole my truck, all I would have to do is drive around and look for it, broke down, on the side of the road.
That sucks Andy, I hope you find it soon.
Well, technically "threatened with suit". Meeting with lawyer last week. Feeling much better now.
And as for the group of threes, dad passed two weeks ago so technically I should be good for a few months. I hope.
Will keep a eye open down here in the Austin area !
Good luck
I get lojack with all my personal vehicles. Will certainly recommend that to the boss for the replacement or if we get the original back.
As close as we are to the border, I would suspect it is headed towards Mexico or stolen by joy riders. I called a fellow survey hoping he would be out working in the Fort Davis or Presidio area to keep an eye out.
Why was the GPS and the Total Station left in the truck overnight?
That is a fireable offense at my shop.
I know of a few crews that are out in Presidio, TX doing the Urban Levee Remediation. I'll pass the info on to them. Sorry to hear about your truck and equipment.
I have to agree the it is already south of the border...

Sorry to hear about your dad. Hugs
GPS Tracker on Vehicles
I have a friend that runs a BIG surveying operation. A few years ago, their insurance was eating their lunch. They had to make it a company policy that after 1 speeding ticket you could not drive a company truck. The insurance company checked with the DMV every quarter. They put GPS trackers on all the truck, and saved the cost of the equipment in the first quarter. They also found out why some of the crews were not as productive as they should be. They can look and see where each truck is at any time, and download a log showing where it has been and how long it stayed there. After the first crew wasa replaced for being at the gentlemen's club until 4:00 AM for 3 nights in a row, the rest of the guys caught on. It will also send and e-mail if the truck exceeds 75 MPH.
I know it is a little bit like big brother, but some times the kids need to be watched a little closer.

Yeah, I'm recommending a GPS unit. We had loggers when I was with Tri-Tech and they were helpful to prove billing questions about how long a crew was on each site, etc... Had a problem with one guy parking in the parking lot down the road for 2 hours before coming back to the office. He was let go.
As for the policy of no equipment left in vehicles/fireable offense, that has not been the policy here. Although it may now.
