... have been limited by you voluntarily if you have chosen to become a licensed land surveyor.

If you come to any public forum such as this one, you might want to read the rules and regs of your state board of registration before posting, which may have published rules prohibiting things such as public statements in your capacity as a licensed surveyor which are false, misleading, or deceptive; or engaging in any conduct or statement that discredits surveyors or the profession of surveying. And sometimes a lot more, depending on your state.

Your BOR is unlikely to have to look to the normal standards for slander or libel which apply to the general public; you will be held to a much higher standard, and you volunteered for it. Many licensed professions self regulate in this manner.

I'm not giving legal advice, of course, because your BOR is quite likely an administrative authority outside of the court system, just saying don't be surprised if you engage in conduct which discredits you or your profession and you get a certified letter some morning.

I'm not talking about the normal differences of professional opinion but the outright unsubstantiated personal attacks on individual surveyors or groups of surveyors, based not on facts but derision, ridicule, and sarcasm.

Finally, I want to congratulate the administrator who has done a fine job moderating the forum, in spite of all of the challenges from those who just do not seem to understand that rules and regulations apply to them.

And moderation is the key rule if you are a licensed professional.

Somehow, I would have thought that knowledge and expertise figured more prominently in the practice of most licensed professions than moderation or total abstinence . :>

Look up "Moral turpitude" and "Good Moral Character".
Both are parts of many BOR rules.

Have you noticed the distinct change towards civility in this board since a certain person has not been around? The moderator used his power to remove someone who in my personal opinion had neither the character or the good sense to keep certain feelings to himself. The forum is better off for this action.
The character (or lack thereof)of one person can have an effect on an entire group, be they anarchists being moved to action, or a group of professionals moved to be less than honest behavior. The rule would seem to allow a BOR some leeway in telling someone to "cool it" before their actions cast a shadow on others who work under the BOR oversight. As a condition of licensure, I don't see the 1st Amendment violation, you don't have to be a Surveyor.

Think Wall Street. The gutters run puce with moral terpitude(my color assignment).

Each day I stand with baited breath for the mail to arrive hoping that letter arrives from Ric Moore.... so far, nothing but bitter disappointment.

Professional Conduct in Oklahoma

I can't find anything in there that says I can't sling monkey-poo out of my cage if I feel the need..as long as I don't get convicted of a heinous crime, or "deceive, defraud or harm the public"....oh, and pay my dues and fees on time.
