Wendell.

Your site, your rules. Nuff said.

I will admit to using the word idiot once, on a different site. Problem is you can't fix stupid.:-P

I Was Told Once

when writing a letter, conduct yourself as if you were face to face with the person you are addressing. I always try to keep that in mind when posting anywhere, but especially on a website devoted to what I do for a living.

Nobody loves P and R more than me, as today's post count will attest, but personal attacks are just beyond the pale.

In debate, the first one that resorts to personal attacks is the loser.

Then again, Ron White comes to mind......

Wendell.

I used the work "idiot" to quote another poster who repeatedly referred to me and anybody else in sight by the term "dippy idiot". I think it's humorous among the old-timers but to a novice to the site, it might seem kind of harsh. By the way, I still feel like a novice to the group since I have only been aware of this community of people for about 3 years. Some of the participants have been interacting for many, many years before that. I still like to defer to the founding fathers (and mothers) because I am still riding on their coat-tails as far as the building of a surveying site.

True, but I just happen to enjoy American History more than most "youngsters" and even older folks than myself. I was a sponge; I worked for that A+ I got in school! My daughter & mother tell me American History is "boring". I found ANCIENT history boring at times but have never once found our own countries history boring at all.

I usually recognize MLK's initials (when reading something online) by MLK Jr., not the MLK itself. That's what threw me off. Now if it's on the school calendar or a street name or something, I know exactly what it stands for. I'm not THAT out of the loop.

Dear Boys...

> To me, the attitude among the admin and the participants was really cool at first when this site started up. It still is, for the most part, but some people just want to push the envelope for some reason. When somebody, especially the people hosting the site, comment about a particular type of post, why do some people persist in presenting that objectionable type of post? I just don't get it. If I went to somebody's house and said something that they found offensive, I would either stop saying that or stop going to their house.

You should see how far the envelope is pushed in the private emails we get. It's pushed so hard it rips open!! :-S

I will never 100% understand the physical threats stuff, though. I know not everyone is going to agree here (or anywhere for that matter) but is it REALLY necessary for a person to tell another person that they are going to kick that persons ass, or shoot them and their wife and kid(s), skin their pets, piss on their graves, drag their dead relatives in it,(and much worse) just because that other person disagreed with their political or religious view??!! I can understand wanting to beat the tar out of say a child molester, but wanting to beat the tar out of an "Obama" or "Bush" lover??? Please.

Where did we EVER get the right to try to shove & force ones political or religious belief down someone elses throat with the intent that if they do NOT believe or disagree, they are going to have bodily harm inflicted on them (or worse!)??
Just because someone likes Obama but not Bush, or someone likes Bush and not Obama, or because someone is Republican and the Republicans won or someone is Democrat and the Democrats won, does not make either person an idiot, nor does it give either person the right to use threats against the other because of that persons choice in President or political party. Same with religion.

I DO agree, though, that the people that ARE going to the "extreme" with this stuff need to be stopped before it gets out of hand AND does turn into the physical threats that they make. Some may say "oh it's all online, they'd NEVER really "do" it to so and so"...well...I've been doing this online moderation stuff since 1991 and I have seen some really bad violent situations come out of the start of "well your religion sucks, mine is right; well your President is an idiot, the last one was better", discussions etc... I've seen it go to the extreme that some of those warped people traveled 1000's of miles just to show up at the doorstep of the other persons house to beat the crap out of that person & their family & hang their pets on the porch, torch their cars AND worse, then act like they were "proud" of what they did, all because of a STUPID political or religious disagreement.

So...if I feel like ANY of these "political and/or religious" name calling posts are leading down the violent threat path, Wendell and I will BOTH do what we feel necessary to protect ourselves and our users and keep them safe.

I respect and love  a BUNCH of you guys like uncles, brothers, dads, grandpas, etc...and don't want any of that to ever have to change in ANY way. You're all big boys, I know, but if I feel like you need protection, then I'm going to do what *I* need to do to give it. So there. 😛

This site always has had a kinder, gentler feel to it than the old POB board. I support Wendell & Angel's efforts (in post deletions) to keep it that way.

butterfly shrimp are in season

also on sale at red lobster.
now is the time they are most easily caught- since they travel well-known migratory paths to the seasonal nesting areas to lay eggs for a new hatch of butterfly shrimp caterpillars.......:-)

Is that a new species?
I thought "butterfly" was the way they split them open for deep-frying.
Kind of like a butterfly pork chop - I never heard of a butterfly hog.
😀

Thank you, Perry. Reminds me of your house that you are building that I wanna buy!! "A kinder, gentler feel" kinda house made with heart and soul. 🙂
