OK, I'm having trouble with the hierarchy of posts. Seems you can reply to a poster or reply in general to the thread. But when you look at the thread after you can't tell whether a reply was to a post or just a general reply to the whole thread. Am I missing something here?
Is the only way to make it clear you replied to a certain post (and poster) to quote it in the reply.
I like the new setup OK but it lacks the hierarchy of the posts/replies of the original board (at least for me). I can't see offhand how the conversation went (goes). Are there viewing options I can change for this.
I go back into some old threads and can't tell who is responding to who. To me this takes a lot from the experience here.
This new forum is pretty much formatted like every other forum out there now. We didn't have much choice when we upgraded but couldn't stay with that old software. It was only a matter of time before we got hacked or whatever. If someone held a gun to my head and told me I had to keep running the forum with that old software, I would tell them to go ahead and shoot. There were more than a few times when I thought about just shutting it down. But I'm glad that we found a way to convert to this forum software, because I like it a lot.
That said, we are looking at ways to possibly make this happen. It will probably never be exactly like it was before but there's probably some things we can do to get it a little closer.

I'm not suggesting to do away with this software, it has some great features.
So, I clicked the reply button in your post and it quoted your whole post. I suppose that works. I suppose I could delete most of the quote so all that was left is the "Wendell, post: 326409, member: 1". Could that be a clickable option?
?
Trying something different just to see how it looks.
First quoting LRDay's post.

With a partial quote. The link to this was copied from the +#2 permalink (lower right) in Wendell's post.
Wendell,
Only comment I have on the hierarchy of posts short of agreeing with LRDAY that the old format was much easier to follow at a glance, is whenever I click on a most recent post on a particular thread I'm taken right to the very beginning of thread and then have to navigate my way through all of the posts to see the most recent addition. In a word, awkward, particularly if it's gotten long.

Just click and highlight the text in the post you want to quote and a little button will appear, allowing you to add it to MultiQuote or reply immediately. Either way, it only quotes the selected text.

If you are using the Recent Posts sidebar on the home page, yes, it does that. If you go to the Recent Posts page, clicking a title will take you to the first unread post.
You can get to the Recent Posts page by either clicking the Recent Posts sidebar header or by clicking the link in the top navigation bar.

Wendell-
Try to make it as 'glance quickly' accessible as possible.
I have been rather occupied recently.
Is there a group of "Helpful hints for Idiots" (like me) such as you set out above ?

Check out the "Forum Tips & Tricks" forum. People keep posting support questions in there, but I keep weeding them out so that all you will see are helpful tips about how to use this forum.
