Since this IS a surveying website (Surveyor connect), why doesn't the Category default to Surveying. I know I'm absent minded, but every time I post a new message, I have to edit it, take it out of non-surveying, and place it in Surveying.
The previously provided statement on this was that this IS a surveying site. Everything in certain categories is made available to the casual viewer. The remainder of the fodder, i.e. humor, sports, general non-surveying, etc. are deemed to be unfit for viewing by casual observers expecting to see surveying-only type discussion. Advertisers prefer to be connected only with the surverying-only type categories. By having the default be Strictly Surveying too many things would be put there that do not belong. Hence, the need to conciously place it there.
I'll take your word for it.
Holy Cow is correct. Surveying-related threads are automatically sent to various social networks and are made visible by non-registered people. Why? We only want surveying threads to be publicly-visible so that the search bots only collect surveying-related content. This means that our audience has a MUCH higher ratio of surveyors than non-surveyors, hence maintaining a great level of quality visitors.
By setting Land Surveying as the default category, we are opening ourselves up to having non-surveying content go out to the masses before we catch it. So yes, it does make our workload a tad higher, but it's worth it in the long run (for us and for you).
