Wendell,
Twice I have sent a link to a specific thread a surveyor friend of mine would be interested in, but when he clicks the link it takes him to the front page of the forum and not to the actual thread. I just copy and paste the link from the IE address bar into the email. When I clicked the link in the message I'm about to send, it works and goes directly to the thread.
I don't know if this is something you can check out or not. Just letting you know.
Thanks.
Is the link getting broken during the send/receive process? Sometimes that happens to me where I will get the whole link but only part of it is clickable. I sometimes have to copy-paste the whole link from the email to make it work.
If I know that might be a problem for someone, I sometimes format my email (I use Outlook) to HTML or Rich text and then insert a hyperlink into some text that I call "link" or "click here".
Could it be that non-members cannot access posts in certain categories, therefore get routed to the main page. Ask him to register and see if that helps.
Is the thread you are linking to in a public-facing category (i.e. a surveying-related category)? Non-surveying categorized threads are only viewable to registered users because we want to keep Google's search bots on topic. 🙂

I think you nailed it. I just logged out and tried to use the direct link to this thread as a test and it bumped me to the home page.
Good call!
That's it. Thanks. When he was on the page that thread didn't even show up. It was the HOA CCR thread.
My big brother figured that out, but he is Smart! He drives a Train! (engineer)
also many mail readers get tricked by word wrap breaking the url... or did someone say that?
