iPhone iOS 11.2 safari doesn't show this post or even the rpls support forum.

You have to be logged in to see non-surveying related forums and posts. This has always been true, because I only want the search engines to index surveying-related topics and posts. I don't want to attract non-surveyors any more than necessary -- that's always been one of my primary goals -- to keep this place as close to being all surveyors (and related professions) as possible. We may not have the tens of thousands of users as touted elsewhere, but our membership numbers are less fluff and much more realistic.

I'm amused that the basic function of an InterWeb Forum is the ability to reply to messages but somehow that ain't working ;-). Odd in that it works in 190 billion other InterWeb Forums I've visited. Interacting in BeerLeg is not mission critical for me, so I just try every coupla days; always a "Waiting" prompt in the upper right hand corner and no joy.

Apparently it works for most people and therefore Wendell is saying *I'm* the problem. Unlikely, as my computer is as generic as they come. Wendell has requested my exact configuration, but I suspect that's not the problem. Oh well, here it is:

*Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, Dell Studio 1750 Intel Core Duo.
*Chrome Version 62.0.3202.94 (Official Build) (64-bit).
*Deleted cache & cookies, made sure the latest JavaScript is enabled, tried it in my older FireFox and IE browsers, and it still no workie.

I've seen this before, cheep commercial Forum software can't handle the load, owner decides he can do the whole thing in WordPress (being a InterWeb expert) and creates a Website that sucks.

The major suck is I can't reply to messages, immediately view the next message after my last post the next day on a thread, no imbedded emoticons, no shift left bullet text, ignorance of the Shift-I Shift-Bold Windows hotkeys, highlighting, etc.

Wendell, you have to up your game, maybe spend some coin for a good messaging system or give up and let the commercial and government systems dominate. Or not, your effort is a labor of love.

Wendell, you have to up your game

Most of us know that Wendell's game is as up as it needs to be. Griping about a no-cost hangout isn't going to win any friends hereabouts.

That said, I'll agree that Wordpress can be a problematic platform for custom sites, especially those with a lot of user posts. There are tons of third-party plugins that an admin may be tempted to use to attain certain functionality, but some of them don't play well with others, and it's not hard cobble a bunch together and end up with a Frankenstein site.

A local guy who makes his living (albeit a very modest one) from a local politics blog learned this lesson the hard way. His site also generates a lot of user posts, and those posts are one of its most valuable features. As one of his patrons, I sat in on some of the meetings with web developers when he switched over to Wordpress, and it became clear to me that Wordpress can be a demanding mistress. His site is working *okay* now (though the search function is pretty useless), but it cost him a lot of money to get there, and it's still not what I'd call a well-executed website.

Also, I don't want to forget to THANK everyone who has provided me with constructive criticism. Some folks go as far as to apologize for complaining, but that is not necessary. I want to know what's wrong and I want to fix it ASAP. So there's really no need to apologize for reporting problems, unless you are just being an asshole about it. So far, I've only noticed a couple of posts that were kind of nasty. Most people are just reporting the issues and I appreciate it more than I can express in words. It helps a lot.

But please don't read into my posts as anything being your fault. I'm simply trying to find some sort of common ground so I can narrow it all down and get to the source of the problem. I have not been able to replicate the problems on my end AT ALL, so it's very hard for me to see what you see. This is why I need more information.

I'm truly sorry for the inconveniences, and I'm only asking that you be patient with me while we figure them all out.?ÿ

I reread my last post and agree it was bit harsh. Somehow I thought I was being funny.

I apologise.

Thanks Mark. I probably over-reacted a bit myself. But this website is near and dear to my heart and my intentions are to only make it better. I've made some mistakes in the past regarding software choices and we're all paying the price now. But I do believe that it is for the overall good... I also believe that the current efforts are the efforts that SHOULD have been made in 2014, when we initially switched software. I can blame my previous business partner for pushing me in that direction, and yes he should hold some of that distinction, but ultimately I am the one who pulled the trigger and made it happen.

Reply should only scroll you down to the reply editor window and nothing more. If you are already at the last post and click Reply, you may notice little or no action at all.

Okay, then it's working.?ÿ I recall the old board would quote the parent message when Reply was clicked, so that's what I was expecting.?ÿ Not a big deal for me, I usually only quote part of a post anyway.

Yeah, the terminology is a bit different now and not quite as many options, but it definitely simplifies things. Some features may return in the future, however. The biggest feature we're currently working on is New Posts.

Hmmm. Before I troubleshoot, did you clear your cache just to make sure?

It seems to work fine on my laptop running Windows 7 and Internet Explorer. Where I have trouble is on my Iphone.

  • Whether you are using a desktop/laptop or mobile device - Mobile
  • If on a phone, brand and model name (Samsung Galaxy S8+) - Iphone 6
  • If on a phone, the OS version, if known - 11.1.2
  • Those buttons do not work on Safari or Chrome browser apps for me

?ÿ
