Lighten up, Frances.
That's the thing -- people will always be offended by differing opinions, and what I've seen are people telling me that someone attacked them, then when I read the "offending" post, it's actually just a differing opinion. I can't bring myself to delete a post that is simply a differing opinion. Show me an actual attack and I'll delete it.
You do bring up some good points and I appreciate your insight. But I'll be damned if I'll delete posts that are simply opposing opinions. The people that are offended by these need to realize that we are all allowed to have our own opinions, even if they differentiate from theirs.
I may have to just have a heavier hand in all this, but I just can't spend the time that you apparently do with moderation. I just can't. I can't afford to.
Lighten up, Frances.
I tend to ban all users that go to the childish level of attacks. Regardless of the issue at hand. Common courtesy is not that difficult and it is expected. Otherwise, there are literally thousands of web sites where they can go to act an ass.

There's a difference between "differing opinions" and rideculing someones personal belief system. There are numerous posts by one particular individual that taunts believing in fairy tales. That is NOT an opinion, it is an affrontery and attack on a specific belief system.
Good one DJ
People tell Atheists they are wrong all the time. But tell a fundamentalist religious type they are wrong and they consider it a personal attack.

So I guess what I'll start doing is if there's even a slight lean toward an attack, whether it be sarcastic or whatever, then it's gone.
So instead of saying, "Christianity is dumb," then one might say, "I don't agree with the Christian lifestyle." In that respect, cptdent is correct, there's no reason to say it in a disrespectful manner.
I do see comments like the "dumb" example above, and I find myself in a gray area. Yes, it is an opinion by the poster. Personally, I'm not offended. My favorite band in the world is Boston, but if someone said "Boston is dumb," I wouldn't be offended. I would just disagree and I might say so. But I'm not going to say you are an idiot for not liking Boston. But some people are offended by that, so I guess I'm going to have to delete comments like that now. Sad but true.
Lighten up, Frances.
True that. I guess maybe I'm not offended by such statements so I look past it, not realizing that people truly are hurt by it.
Good one DJ
That does seem true. But I see what he's saying -- why take it to a childish level in the first place? Whether or not an Atheist is offended by a hurtful statement doesn't mean it shouldn't be removed. It just goes right back to the basic principle of the matter. You may not be offended by a particular statement, but that doesn't mean you should be subjected to it.
Boston is dumb
Actually I liked the band in high school during the late 70's when their 2 or 3 albums came out, but the local classic rock stations keep playing and playing (and playing) their limited supply of music so frequently that I have to change the station when I hear one of their songs come on.
Boston is dumb
Can't say I blame you there, but I listen to all of their stuff since the 70's too. 🙂

> I ban anyone that violates Constitutional rights. Religion can easily be discussed in a respectful manner.
Whose Constitutional rights have been violated here? How can that even happen on a private internet forum? As far as I know, there is no Constitutional right to not be offended.
One thing I've noticed.
Is that the non religious want everything that contains any religious sentiment removed or banned, and usually fall back on the same old excuse of not wanting religion forced on them.
I've never witnessed anyone here trying to force any religion on anybody.
Asking for a prayer request is not forcing others to become religious.
Giving God the glory for something good that happened in your life is not forcing religion on anybody.
Professing your own individual faith is not forcing religion on anybody.
Some people just need to get a grip and realize that other people have rights too.
Seems like this entire thread is an example of the exact complaints mentioned in it...
Is it reality? Is it parody? Is it insanity? Where does it switch, if it does...?
Reminds me of a Phillip K. Dick novel.
Good one DJ
I have NEVER told anyone that their beliefs are wrong. You want to be an atheist? Fine with me. Not my place to judge. Just do it with dignity and class and manners. That's my point.

D. J., The Constitution gives the RIGHT to practice your religion and believe what you want. An affront on that right by an uncouth churl is thus a violation of that individual's Constitutional rights.
It's real simple to see. IF you want to.
I just do not belong to that club that believes everyone has the right to do or say whatever they want to. YOUR rights end where MINE begin.

BOSTON???? You've never heard of Jeathro Tull????? B-)

Legal protection of religious profession and practice starts and ends in the public sphere. Within the confines of a private space -- real or virtual -- there is no such protection.
