I'm curious what settings others prefer, and why.

For those of you who haven't noticed, this board has the option of sorting the message index by the date/time the thread was started (the first post) or sorting by the last reply, which will continously bring popular threads back to the top. You can switch back and forth by clicking the "Order" link near the upper right of the page.

One of the my biggest complaints about i-boards is that on an active board, such as that was, good topics were typically pushed off the first page in 24 hours. Some people were concerned that a "rise to the top" format would cause "hostile" threads to stay on the front page for too long. You do see that sometimes on these types of boards, but that is where an active moderator comes in handy, to "lock" a thread when it's run it's course ....

The only downside I see to a "rise to the top" format is that popular threads might push other threads off the first page too quickly, before they have a chance for everyone to see them and/or respond.

So, think of this a poll. What setting do you like best?

By Last Reply for me. I don't like seeing threads die just because they've rolled off the page.

What I like about this format is the ability to switch back and forth.

First I look by thread date to see what's new.

Then I switch to last reply to see the updates.

Since nobody's forcing me to pick one or the other, I use both.
