Each time I read a post and press back to forum index, the forum page freezes up for about 10-15 seconds. Is this only on my computer, and if so, what can I do about it? I am using windows 2k and have a broadband connection.
No, same thing is happening to me. ISP is Charter.
Only about 2 seconds here on my home computer and it is slower than any computer I've got. When things bog down like that, I try to remember to go to task manager and shut down processes that are taking up lots of room and shut down applications that might not be responding properly. I learned that here, by the way.
goes back in a flash from here
Yes, mine goes back fast, but it freezes up then so that I can't select another post for about 10-15 seconds.
I'm going to say it's a local or ISP problem, but I'm not ruling anything out. I've alerted the host to a potential issue and we'll see if he can find anything on his end. Thanks for letting me know. 🙂
I would be interested in finding out if you have the same issue when using an alternate browser.
Everything is back to normal this morning.
Might this be related to the way this site does a full page load when starting it up?
Wendell,
You are right, it seems to be only with IE on this computer. This computer is running windows 2k and is on 6MB DSL and when I use Firefox it works fine but IE freezes. I tried IE on another computer with windows 2k that is on cable and it freezes using IE but not with Firefox. I tried yet another computer running XP on cable with Google Chrome, IE and Firefox, IE seemed to work fine but was a little slower than the other two.
Thanks for the help.
I would suspect that it is a combination of Windows 2000 (an old operating system) and, I'm assuming, an older version of IE on that computer.
If you are using anything older than IE8 on any of your computers, I'm sure that has something to do with it as well. Overall, however, IE (any version) gets clogged with cache files and such and a little housekeeping for your computer can make a world of difference. I suspect that switching to another browser helped partially because you are starting new without a bunch of cached stuff.
