Excuse the heck out of me if this has been discussed ten times already, but what kind of files can be inserted into posts with the upload and image buttons? Or, is there a better way? And how do you do it? I tried the search and FAQ and couldn't find instructions about that. I wanted to entertain you with a map the other day and couldn't figure it out.

So far I've seen Sarcasm.txt and Invective.xyz being the most popular.
You can also try Respect.crd and Harmony.img if you have the proper software.

You might try a 'special'.shp but the GIS folks would argue the accuracy of a beerleg.
The link button will turn any URL into proper forum link code.
The image button is used to post an image stored elsewhere on the web (such as photobucket or facebook).
The flash button is for inserting embed video code. You get the embed text from Youtube and insert it into top box in the dialog.
I haven't actually used the upload button which I assume uploads your image or video to Beerleg. This costs Wendell more bandwidth not to mention storage.
As of now, I do not have a way of hosting PDF or other types of files. However, that is one of the highest priority items that I'd like to tackle. Meanwhile, if you can find a way to host your files and link to them, that will work for now.
