I have an R10, and an AT&T sim card that has always worked with no problem. When my first R10 was stolen, I put a new card in the new R10, and after giving AT&T the IMEI, everything worked fine.
I received a new cell modem on Friday. I decided yesterday to see if it worked as I needed. I took the SIM out of the R10, told the new modem to use the I2GOLD APN, and it worked fine, no problems.
Today, in preparation for a trip tomorrow, I put the SIM card back in the R10. It connects to the cell network, registers, but PPP will not start, it keeps trying and then disconnects, then tries again, etc. I spent an hour on the phone with AT&T third party device tech support, and they could not find anything wrong. I rebooted, tried different APN's (WAP.CINGULAR, etc), but nothing. The tech support guy said he could see the R10 register, and see the IP address (fixed) associated with it, but I cannot reach it with a web browser. It just keeps cycling through connecting, disconnect, wait 30s, then repeats. So it seems like using the other device screwed up something in the AT&T network, but of course he says everything looks correct.
If anyone has seen a problem like this before, and knows the solution, I would appreciate a little help.
Hi John,
I have had similar issues. I believe the current correct answer is to leave everything blank. If the device won't allow you to have a blank APN name, set it to "broadband" (all lower case.) If there is a dial string *99#.
I know other settings work too, but...
If you have a Mi-Fi to try the card out in then that may help debug.
The last time I purchased (replaced) a sim card (I have two), ATT was all over knowing the IMEI number. I gave them the number from my access point, which they correctly told me was associated with the other card.
Anyway, the new card has never been in the device it was registered to. But I have but it in 100's of other devices (we use it to check GSM modems in equipment we sell.)
Sometimes I have difficulty and I swear the trick is to turn off the device and wait 10 minutes for the ATT backend to deal with it. Then when I turn back on it typically will go.
Since we are talking about this, I noticed the other day that I pay $20 per month per card and they suck out of my shared data pool. My cards don't have voice and texting. But it is the same price to have voice and texting (other than in Utah there is no state tax on a data only plan.) I will probably fully enable these cards the next time I screw around with our account.

Fortunately I don't need it this week, I will be accessing a vrs through the Yuma or alternatively through my phone as a hotspot. But, since they are both Verizon like having the at&t option as a backup.
I will try those suggestions when i get back.
Thanks, Mark

Works fine today. I believe the problem was at their end, and maybe going to another area resolved it.
