Just wondering if SurvPC, using settings for the Carlson "Supervisor + GPS Tablet" receiver, could possibly run the Leica CS25 GNSS Plus Windows 7 ruggedized tablet receiver? Both use the same Algiz 7 Windows 7 tablet and Novatel 120 channel GNSS board.

Our CS25 GNSS Plus receiver is being used for GIS work, but it also offers the ability for 1 centimeter survey quality. However, to obtain 1 cm data (I assume when running the Leica data collection onboard software) Leica wants $3950 to license GPS/RTK/Glonass abilities, and $1800 for the required external antenna. Forget the $3950, but without buying the $1800 antenna we are hoping to learn whether or not SurvPC can successfully drive this receiver. Obviously, if we purchased the $1800 antenna we could then try it out and get an answer, but our curiosity is not worth $1800 at the moment.

In addition, a much more technical question is whether or not an unlicensed CS25 receiver (ie keeping the $3950 in our pocket) could provide the satellite data flow to the SurvPC software, or is this only possible via the $3950 licensing(?). I have no idea whether the licensing is a Leica software thing, or if it is somehow tied to Novatel drivers. How this stuff works is way over my head.

Would anyone care to speculate (and give an explanation) on whether a Leica software(?) licensing provision could prevent the flow of satellite data generated by the Novatel receiver from getting to the SurvPC software?

The computer will not be running any Leica software. We will simply be running SurvPC on a Windows 7 computer which also happens to have a built-in Novatel GNSS receiver.

Many thanks to anyone who would provide help.

In short yes, you could utilize SurvPC with or without the L2/RTK/GLONASS options. SurvPC doesn't offer a driver for the CS25 GNSS plus, but you can utilize Zeno Connect ($500.00) which configures the GNSS (RTK or internet based corrections) as well as necessary NMEA sentences.

You would also want GPS Gate ( http://gpsgate.com/products/gpsgate_client) which is a free com relay tool that can automatically start relaying the NMEA data once Zeno Connect has been started.

The email in my profile is valid, so feel free to email me if you should have any further questions about this configuration.

You are certainly a good one J.

Thanks for helping me out earlier this year with Kara in Illinois.
