It is a WOW story, SVN 27 was in orbit working for more than 3 times it's design lifetime of 7.5 years. In 1993 one year after it's launch a backup system says it was not working properly. They had to decide if testing that system would lead to other problems. Since it was a backup system they elected to leave it be. Finally 26 years and after it was out of service they tested that component before completely disabling the satellite.
How many 27 year old GPS receivers are still working? I have at least one stored away, so I guess I'll have to take it out and fire it up.
