IGS Precise Orbits Link?

For years I've used a bookmark to take me to the IGS precise orbits page for download. Today I tried to retrieve a file from Week 1920, but when I click on the link I get a message about the site being obsolete, and then I get transferred to a spiffy new IGS page. When I click on the Products link, it takes me to a page that tells me all about the various orbits available, but I can't find a link to the actual files anywhere. I've tried using both Firefox and Chrome, same result. Anyone else know where I can find the orbit files?

Certainly not an elegant solution (and I'm not sure if the web page will have the data you want), but it works.

Select the GPS week, and quickly click on the first 8 to 9 download files before the page redirects in 5 seconds. For whatever reason, the page freezes instead of redirecting to IGS.org. You can then delete the 8 to 9 download dialog boxes, click the file(s) you want to download and presto, a sledge hammer solution. 🙂

Not sure why it freezes up, but here's the precise orbit file "igu19226_18.sp3.Z" (I had to change the "Z" to "PDF" for it to upload here).

Edit to add: I use Leica LGO and it has a tool to download rapid and precise ephemerides. It just downloaded the precise ephemeris of Nov. 12, 2016 with no problems.

BOOGERS!

When I went to the JPL site , I cannot get the file trick to work.

Not a biggy for me as I can still get the igu and igr orbits. Which are what I need.

An alternative to the JPL: site is to go to the CORS ftp site and pick the RINEX file link.

Embedded within all the CORs folders are the igu**, igr** & igs** files. However some genius has boogered up that site.

I see for year 2016, Julian date folders which should contain all the CORS stations, they do not. Continuing after the Julian date folders are month/day folders with other CORS sites. That genius also specified the months be in alphanumeric format, so that apr30 comes before aug01 and nov30 before oct01.

However for the latest folders the majority are in the Julian date 334 folder and a smaller set of other CORS folders in the nov29 folder. For much older dates the folders appear to both be full.

If you have been relying on a GPS post processor that automatically downloads CORS RINEX and have noticed some sites not being used that may be the reason.

Interesting information on the transition in analysis center coordination from NGS to joint GA and MIT:

But to the point of the posting...

The http link below describes some alternate SP3 sources that may help.

http://mgex.igs.org/IGS_MGEX_Products.html

Here are the ftp addresses for two of the sites

ftp://igs.ign.fr/pub/igs/products/mgex/

ftp://igs.ensg.eu/pub/igs/products/mgex/

Unless I am missing something, https://igscb.jpl.nasa.gov/components/prods_cb.html seems to work for me.

It works for the ultrarapid and rapid, but have you tried to get final orbits from one of the GPS week links?

Ha! I see what you are saying now. Nope, definitely not working.

I rarely dig that deep on there. For most of what we work on Rapid orbits are sufficient.

Is this only affecting recent dates? I just tested the Internet Download link in TBC and had no problem retrieving the final orbits for a session from October 24.

Are the files here: ftp://ftp.igs.org/pub/product/1922/

Yes, that looks right and you can get final GLONASS at ftp://ftp.igs.org/pub/glonass/products/1922/ for the same week as an example.

My Leica LGO has been hanging on the auto download for a good long while and I have just been manually going to the FTP site to get them.

Does seem a bit odd that the redirect to the new IGS site DOES NOT have a way to download these!

As the poster obviously has a need for the precise "final" orbit product, I hope he finds a solution to his problem with the IGSCB site.

For what it's worth, the requirement for final orbits ("igs") is hardly justified given the excellence of the rapid product ("igr).
See image 1 above. There are undoubtedly some who need that extra 5 picosecond accuracy in clocks (???).

As a practical matter, if I wanted the best orbit information and igscb final orbits were not available I would have few qualms using the individual provider solutions. See image 2 for how closely the products now agree.

Of course, if a contract specifies an final precise orbit be used you will be out of luck. Like most contract specifications those monitoring performance are not willing to discuss the point.

I actually would have been fine with the rapid orbits, but the familiar (and now obsolete) IGS page only has links to the most recent 3 GPS weeks worth of files. In order to get to the older files, you used to just click on the week number, but that's what led me into chasing links in a circle on the new IGS website.

Here's the response I got from IGS Support:

We are working on adding more information to the products web page http://www.igs.org/products regarding the file locations. We hope to have this information added in the near future.

For now it looks like you have to find your way to the ftp site by other means. The most direct way is this: ftp://ftp.igs.org/pub/product/WeekNumber/ (replace WeekNumber with the desired value, e.g. 1922).

FWIW, TBC was able to download the files without issue. I had never used that feature before, since the "old way" was working. I guess TBC is tapping the ftp site directly, so it still works.

Another link to a precise orbit location.

Click on the day of the month to get a list of available downloads.
