Does anyone have any experience with these products? I need to make a decision between the two. Salesman is trying to sell me on the Tesla and Magnet Enterprise. My big hang up with it is the $700 per year software subscription for Topcon Enterprise.
We are a small company. We are running two crews most of the time. So $700 will become $1400 if I get two data collectors?
Carlson should not have subscription fees and we already run Carlson office software. The prices are very close. We already have two carlson explorer 2s that we could transfer licenses from and possibly save a few dollars.
Please give me any advice. Salesman says i can try out tesla and send it back if i dont like it and he ll swap it out, but I feel like there will be some lag time while he gets it back and sends me the new one out.
Would like to see them both in action but tge sales company is far away.
This is part of a GPS sale and I need the equipment asap.
Are you unhappy with Carlson? If not, why switch? I used the Topcon Magnet software very briefly and did not like it. I did not give it much of a chance, but we are running Carlson right now, and I couldn't really see any advantages in switching.
The real price that you will pay will be LESS comparability in the future, with other brands.
IF you are on Carlson, stay put. Changing involves MUCH mental change, and if the crews know how to do it in Carlson, the change will take more than a day of work to get all the way up to speed.

Don't know about tesla, but Topsurv crashed frequently, some quirkiness to the software. My next dc software will be carlson
I own a Survey Equipment retail store in Ontario, we sell/service a variety of new and used equipment from all manufacturers.
We sell both the Juniper Mesa (same as Tesla, different color) as well as the Carlson Surveyor's. We are seeing more and more surveyors leaning towards the tablets but we have a huge customer base of contractors and surveyors using the Carlson Surveyor/Surveyor+. The obvious advantage of the Tesla is the larger screen but the Surveyor is nice if you are doing alot of data entry in the field.
If you are running Carlson in the office and Carlson in the field it makes it nice and smooth transferring files to and from the office, they share the same file formats.
I have used Magnet and see no real advantage over SurvCE. Carlson is a great company in that they are willing to work with any other manufacturer that is willing to work with them. What this means for you is if you decide down the road to invest in a different brand other than Topcon, you will be able to use your existing data collector w/ SurvCE with your new equipment, your not locked in to any one particular manufacturer.
Will your dealer not sell you a Tesla or Mesa with SurvCE?
Good luck, give me a shout if you have any further questions!
Cheers,
