I have an old RTK system that is a Trimble 4000 base with a 4700 receiver. This unit works fine for what I want to use if for but I need to replace the base radio (Paccrest RFM96) a 25mhz system.
What I am trying to determine (without much luck) is will the 4700 internal radio work with the new PacCrest ADL or Satel Easylink base radios or will I need to buy a new rover radio also. If anyone is using this setup or has any input I would really appreciate it.
When the narrowbanding was about to happen, I contacted Pac-Crest to see if my HPB could have the narrow-banded board put in (no); and what was their recommendation.
With the purchase of an ADL (digital modem), my LPB(s) @ 25mhz could still receive a 12.5mhz transmission.
You might try contacting them and asking the same thing.
Warning: the ADL has a temp. range from (whatever low temp.) to 100°.
Another co. I was associated with kept having their shiny new ADL shutdown in the summer time here in Central TX. They sent it back.
Thanks Bryan - I am leaning towards the Satel radios just for that reason.
If you can set the internal radio in your rover to 4800 baud (TrimTalk 450 or EOTT), then you can broadcast:
12.5 KHz BW
4800 Baud
(TrimTalk 450 or EOTT)
which is legal (as only the transmitter must be narrow-banded to meet emission rules.) From my experience you will find your range extended and your battery life shortened, however you may find that you can drop the transmit power and reach the same distances with similar battery life.
There may be an issue if there are nearby 1/2 channel licenses in use, however in rural areas that won't be a problem. (And it probably will not be a problem for a long-long time in town either.)
There may be a cost advantage to using an ADL Vantage Pro as the cables may be interchangeable. Typically all we need to do is put an inexpensive TNC to BNC adapter on top of the new radio to work with an existing antenna.
Good luck,
M
WE HAVE 12 NEW ADL RADIOS ALL OF THEM HAVE BEEN BACK TO THE SHOP FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER. SOME MULTIPLE TIMES. WHEN IT IS 30° OR SO YOU WILL HAVE TO HEAT IT UP WITH THE TRUCK HEATER. WHEN IT IS 95°+ IT WILL SHUT DOWN. GOOD LUCK
Why not just replace the rfm96? They are a dime a dozen now. I have an extra if you would like to purchase. Jp
