Since when?

Maybe in pancake land, but here in the West, Total Station work MUST be corrected (adjusted) based on "round Earth" realities.

In considering all the above comments, I like the above comment about using roof tops.
Also, an "Urban Canyon" can have differing degrees of "Urban Canyon". A real boxed in one... that would not be GPS able.
One that is 2 story and 3 story houses on the sides, and has pretty good street between... that should work in the street.
I would not hesitate to GPS an "Urban Canyon" in Arkansas... but if it has those 10+ story buildings... well we are maybe better to use other means.
I will say this, I have tried VERY hard to get the LS to lie to me. When verify is on, and when 2+ minutes are set, I have YET to get a lie out of it.
But, efficiency? Some places are more efficient, with more conventional means.
I can see a bracket on tall buildings, hanging off the side. And a 32 oz plumb bob, and a coffee can of oil, to stabilize the plumb bob at the bottom. Center the plumb bob in the 1 gallon coffee can, with 2+ inches of oil in the bottom. Draw a circle with chalk on the conc. Make a small scribed mark, and you now have a pretty good X-Y coord. Vertical ... hmmm how tall is that building? 200' tape... vertical taping... I have not done that, but I'd do it in a heart beat!
