Yes, that Giovanni Sella, Ph.D. CORS Program Manager

I posted yesterday that I personally or at least my computer could not log on to any NGS websites. I had Giovanni's email address so I figure, give it a try. I emailed him asking if he could get met a contact to assist in my problem. I got an "Out of Office reply, June 9-12" so I figured it would have to wait.

I was out in the field yesterday afternoon when my cell phone rang, it was Giovanni, WOW! He first asked if I was aware of their outages, I said yes, and had specifically tried when I knew from others that they were up. He then asked if I tried the alternate website. I said yes and had gotten the same no response from wwww.ngs.noaa.gov. He laughed and said they had not been using that address for 4 or 5 years and that I should try www.alt.ngs.noaa.gov. I asked why they had changed it since it was easy to understand the extra w as West. He said nobody else could figure it out. We both laughed. After I reassured him that I was getting the same no response using Windows Explorer or Firefox, he indicated that he would check around about settings next week.

Meanwhile, my computer guy is scratching his head, and maybe we can find out what settings are now different.

I would like to publicly thank Giovanni for paying attention to me on his day off.

good info, great that someone besides me is oblivious of the day and time 😉

BTW, your link did not work for me, but alt.ngs.noaa.gov. works! NOTE: there is a "dot" at the end of the string.
the wwww days are gone I guess.

I missed meeting Dr. Sella after Katrina. He was working for LSU C4G. I got a call from someone at C4G that he was installing a new CORS station on the roof of the old Courthouse around the corner from my office. I walked over at lunch and got admittance and went to the roof but he wasn’t there. The same when I went to the office where he had setup the computer work station. He must have went to get bite somewhere because everything looked like he wasn’t done. I went back to the roof later in the day but he was gone and the CORS was installed. It was placed on one of the roof corners near a very large old Live Oak and wondered if the tree would cause any problems. So I missed the chance to meet him and pick his brain also.

BTW as a sidetrack. I just saw the trailer to Joe Dirt 2 and the scene where Joe is sitting on the park bench under tree is the tree that the CORS is near (30 meters+/-). You can see the old Courthouse in the background

Usefull Link "Is It Down Right Now?"

I have one through 2 IT guys and my Internet Service Provider Tech. The last gave me this link after a new IP address did not work.

http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/

Which can tell you if a site is up for everyone else.

IE Explorer says NGS is "Down for Everyone"

Google Chrome and Firefox says NGS is "Up for everyone" but I can link up on neither.

Definitely I have a problem.

I have 15 pages to sort out on clearing my settings.

I have had several email exchanges with Giovanni today so far.

Maybe you have been blackballed by NGS for your comments about the Texas RTN/ OPUS RS report?:-|

Monday, 10: PM I can finally connect. My internet service provider says they did nothing, but it was a Windows issue.
Sounds like a "None denial, denial."
