I Would Not Dewpend On Two Satellites

I've never been convinced that static performs all that well under canopy. I suppose if the processor can sort out when the signals are coming in clean and when they are not there might be some basis for that. I'd think that an RTK shot taken from SV signals coming in through the holes in the cover would be about as good. So the trick is to sort out the signals that are clean (no leaves) from those that are distorted.

I remember doing a static session under a large juniper tree. Signals clean coming in from low SV's were not obstructed but not from overhead. I played with the session taking out the SV's I new were overhead and finally got what looked like a good position. So if some software routine is able to sort out the clean signals from the dirty ones then I'd be more inclined to accept the data as good. I do work in some poor conditions with GPS but accept that the data is subject to more error in the position.

I Would Not Dewpend On Two Satellites

I agree static is susceptible to multi-path the same as RTK. The difference is the ability to identify and strip bad data from static sessions. The options with RTK are much more limited...

Repeat, I Would Not Depend On Two Satellites Per System

You can't locate a 36" oak tree to .01' 🙂

A wise man once told me... If you try for hundredths, the feet take care of themselves...

A wise man would also say trying to locate a 36" oak to a hundredth is stupid.

Leica is also capable of an independent constellation fix with BeiDou or GLONASS.

relax Bill...

I hear you... it's hard to convey everything in a short post from a smart phone. I am switching to a 'phablet' if I understand the hints from Santa correctly.
I agree it makes no sense to locate an object with a foot of uncertainty to the hundredth. I do try to impress on my guys not to invent some wing nut method just because they can...
