Has anyone connected a Trimble R8 receiver to a data collector with Surv CE using a MIFI device? We are currently using a Carlson Surveyor + with Surv CE 3.0 software. The wireless connection was successful, so I'd like to rule that out of the equation. When configuring the Bluetooth connection between the data collector and the R8, the d.c. recognizes the R8 and it seems to connect successfully (but no indicator). When I go to connect to CRTN, using NTRIP, the message reads "unable to configure device for RTK". The "device" in Carlson terminology means the Receiver (I'm 99% sure), and not the MIFI device. I'm thinking it's a Bluetooth issue right now, but I absolutely could be wrong.
If anyone has had similar issues or more insight into the situation, please help!
Thank you,
Mike LaFontaine
There are so many settings hidden away under different tabs/menus that I can't be sure what fixed it for us, but we did have that error pop up.
Just a guess, but check these settings:
Under GPS Rover > RTK tab
Device: Data Collector Internet
Network: NTRIP
RTK Port: Data
Then you have your specific network settings and passwords ... easy to mistype something there.
Our settings were just as you stated, and all of our network settings are saved in the data collector (that never changes)-but that was checked. At this point, we believe it is a firmware update needed for the R8. I was able to verify the Bluetooth connection was successful, and I connected to the network via MIFI with our Sokkia receivers. The error message we would receive when trying to connect to the network:
"Unable to establish link with device
Connection not available.
Not supported
Error writing port
The socket is invalid
Error writing port
Socket Error in send; OS returned 10054"
That is great info, I appreciate the response!
I would hesitate before updating the receiver firmware ... Carlson cannot run the newer Trimble firmware ... that may actually be your problem. Of our four R8 receivers, one will not connect and it has the most recently updated firmware (and not a recent update by any means).
Trimble doesn't like Carlson playing it their sandbox. Firmware updates on older models are a way of ensuring dysfunction.

I agree with you and I heard from our Trimble rep that the new firmware does not communicate with any software except Trimble. Is there anyway you can send the version# of firmware you are using that is compatable with the Carlson software? That would help tremendously!
All the units are out of town right now, but if I can remember when they return, I will let you know.
I went to the Trimble distributor yesterday and they dumbed down the firmware from V4.8 (newest) to V4.19 (oldest they carried) and the error message was still the same as before. The receiver I was using (R8-3) is not manufactured anymore, so a hopeless venture anyways.
I appreciate your help.
