I'm looking in to purchasing a Topcon Tesla or Juniper Mesa. It's got to be the Geo 3G model. I want the camera, GPS, and 3G data. Some have cautioned that the screen is hard to see outside. I might also miss the keyboard. If someone's got one that they'd like to part with, I'd like to consider it.
Thanks, Al
I demo'd a Tesla 2 weeks ago and I couldn't see the screen very well in sunlight. Lack of a keyboard is frustrating. I'm not buying one. I think I'm going with a carlson supervisor.
The glare is all due to the default screen protector shipped with the Tesla.
Replace it with the NuShield DayVue anti-reflective overlay film protector. These are used in military outdoor applications. DayVue film was specifically designed to cancel out reflected light while allowing transmitted light through.
We have two of them with Magnet installed . We have replaced the screen protectors and work fine. Once you run one of these, the little screen data collector will be hard to see . I will use something like this from now on. My only beef seems the magnet can get a little slow on big jobs if you import cad in the background. We have a huge apartment complex job and the Cad gum ups the works . I think Magnet may be a little too memory hungry for todays handhelds . I do have Magnet on a dell tablet with win8 and its super fast .
But with that said I also had Carlson installed on the units and was have the same problem with cad being in the background. Also had other issues with Carlson 3.## , that made me dump it.
The guys seem to like the work flow of Magent and have not complained at all , once you get it set up its easy to use. We run all Topcon Robots , GPS , So makes sense to use the software .
djames,
Sounds as if the source of your problem regarding running CAD in the background is not the software (Magnet) but the hardware (Tesla vs. Tablet). I'm thinking that it's not Magnet that is memory hungry, but the Tesla that is lacking the memory or processing power to get the job done with a data intensive job.
To me, that suggests yet another reason to go with a PC based solution in the field....
Thanks,
Al
