I am looking for an OMNI Drive that will read PCMCIA SRAM cards (i.e old Leica data cards).
I have one, BUT it is NOT for sale. Other than price any reason to not buy a new one?

Wow, why are they so expensive?
I sent Tom a PM.

Yes the price is my concern. I thought that since SRAM cards are out of date that somebody might have an old drive they didn't use any more. If I can't find a used one I will buy a new one. My 13 year old laptop with the PC Card slot and the nice transfer software is about to be replaced so I need a drive.

I think it DOES have to be OMNI.
I cannot remember why though?

I believe it is just a standard A/B USB cable.

Yes I need an OMNI drive because it is the only one I can find that will read an SRAM card. Other drives will tale PCMCIA cards but will not read an SRAM card from my Leica robot. I have been using a very old laptop with a card reader and 3rd party software to read the card but the laptop is about to go and the company that made the software did not make the jump to newer operating systems. I have had several readers over the years and they have all been made obsolete when the manufacture would not upgrade the drivers for a newer O/S. Bit of a pain but at least I can still buy my way out of the problem with a newer reader.
Thanks to all. I may just put my $$ down for a new one.

Have you considered using a Compact Flash to PC Card adapter? My Leica level came equipped with one -- instead of a PC card -- from the dealer. Plug in a 32MB CF card, add a card reader (if you PC doesn't already have one) and you're good to go.

Won't work for SRAM which is what the 1000 series Leica TS used, my TCA1100 bought new in 1998 has a full sized PC card, but will not work with a CF card in the adapters to make it full size, has to be a SRAM card.
The Omni drives are a very solid and robust solution, just a bit spendy. They are well worth it if you need the ability to read ALL types of cards, old and new. I wished I had of gone that route way before WIN7 forced the issue, just way better than trying to keep old hardware/drivers gone in modern OS's.

I went through this several years ago. I do recall that the Omni Drives are the only ones that would work. We spent around $300-400 for our drive.

Yes about $400 and I guess that is where I am headed. I might as well get this done as I also have been putting it off for years. SRAM card to laptop to USB stick to desktop. Then back the other way to go out in the field USB to Laptop to SRAM card.
I did have a card drive on my desktop that would read SRAM cards many years ago but they never updated their drivers to newer O/S.

Wow. 400 bucks to basically provide a driver interface (the hardware probably only costs pennies to manufacture) seems kinda steep, but I guess if you're the only game in town you get to name your price.
Did I reply to an email rather than posting on the thread? If I did, it totally escaped me. Chalk it up to senioritis.
No, but a few others have.
