I do not like omni products in general. I work in the dark more than most and would rather work with a quality glass and an independent light.

I've worked with lighted prisms from CST/Berger. I use them strictly in dense woods when doing topo. I don't use them at night or for work requiring high accuracy. I would say we can almost cut our topo time in half for work in the dense stuff. The operator is able to find this prism so much faster. It's hard to imagine working without it.

I have always used a bicycle tail light attached to the rod for working in the woods. I have heard stories of guys climbing up in trees and using camera flashes to be found from far away, getting the shot, dropping a plumb bob or other object to the forest floor, taping to line with a loggers tape and blazing line for large forest service boundary surveys.

Unless they are under new management I would not recommend doing any business directly with OMNI. Seems others have had similar experiences.

Wow, those are some pretty unfavorable reviews, and uniformly so. Including one from one of our own!

I have a couple of Omni prisms from way back, but I didn't buy from them directly. They're of decent quality, so I have no complaints about the products. But I'd sure stay away from any direct business dealings with them now!

I have 5 Omni prisms in my truck, and have never had any problems with them. I bought them about 8 years ago when I opened my company. Several years ago, I heard that they had screwed over Hayes Instruments. Then I heard they did the same thing to Mark Silver and Igage.

These two companies have bent over backwards during the time I had my business. I will not purchase Omni products because of they way they have treated my two friends/suppliers. I wish I had known about their business practices before I purchased the prisms from Hayes so many years ago. They really messed them over, and from my conversations, they did something similar to Igage.

I was reading all your post and it looks like many have had problems with Omni. I'm wondering what exactly happened?

I have also had bad dealings with Omni. I have two canister prisms purchased from them. The prism easily shifts in the canister on both prisms and cracks the housing, screw holding in prism also bends due to poor quality metal. Purchased new housings and screws for both directly from Omni and dealt with POOR customer relations and slow shipping. When items arrived the mount screws were missing. Called to inform and was meet with more attitude and a promise they would send the missing items. Never received them, another phone attempt was meet with the same results with no shipment. Chalked it up as a lesson learned.
