I bought two 48GX's in '93 (W/SMI's DCE cards). Put one in the drawer for a spare. I'm still using the first one, almost every day. It's been through some stuff, I tell ya.
Does your state society hold an auction for scholarships? Our's does every year at the annual meeting. People/companies/vendors donate auction materials (new or used equipment, books, various other items).
The donor gets a tax deduction and the auction proceeds go to the scholarship foundation.
That may be another option if you have something similar where you are.
