looking for a decent chain with calibration cert. Metric/statute, current or older, NIST, or private lab, calibration. 30 m, 100 ft, longer if anyone has one.
Although you may be able to find such a thing to purchase, I believe this is something you acquire from the NIST.

I bought a tape from Lufkin and, for an additional fee, they provided a calibration certificate traceable to NIST.
Also had two metric tapes calibrated at NIST. They laser engrave a serial number on tape and provide calibration certificate AND tape specifications required in some formulae.
New, NIST calibrated, are expensive. Maybe there's a closet chain that some one doesn't need. I'm looking for a good check-chain. I don't need a new 1:100,000 chain.

"The NIST facility can accommodate tapes as long as three kilometers."
dude! 3K!
I contacted NIST, fee for service is $500, 8 reference points, 200 ft. and offered up to 400 ft max. additional charges.
I've never heard of a km long chain. Where could even use one? RR grade? A 3 km chain wouldn't be very useful. And, what, 400 pounds?

They'll probably put a kink in it trying to bend it around the lab 😀
In the "it's a small world" category; we recently ran control and located about 1,500 points inside half a dozen buildings on the NIST campus; it's raining here and one of my crew chiefs is in the office today and he just adjusted the loop through the Metrology Lab about 45 minutes ago.

yes, it is a small world. i was on the layout of some of the nist new metrology lab/building. i got a chance to spy on their standardization and calibration setups
I could see the Pentagon smoking from Gaithersburg on the day of the attacks.
Keep an eye out on EBay
I was lucky and found NIB Lufkin 100ft nubian highway for $25.
Then a mended 50ft and mended 100ft yellow clad lightweights with reels $45 for both.
😉
