Very easy to switch near the start. After years (decades) it might be a little harder.
Hopefully you'll get work in a firm that lets you experience more than just a single aspect.
Most firms in Melb will have Engineering (Detail, Construction Stakeout) and Cadastral all together. Hydrographic Surveying is a speciality and may be harder to find work for.
Mining is usually FIFO and I'm not sure would be suitable when studying...
Local Council is also a good place to get a variety of work and are sometimes more accommodating to study requirements.
