Last Friday [October 26, 2012] the Western Chapter of the Virginia Association of Surveyors (VAS) held an all day seminar for Licensed Surveyors (and others) to get training and class time for the CEU's/PDH's required to maintain their license. We held it in the Montgomery County Government Center in Christiansburg, VA and had 53± attendees.
The day started with some breakfast food items, coffee and soft drinks for the attendees, but I did not get pictures of those. We also supplied deli sandwiches from a local favorite deli with cupcakes, brownies, cookies and more. Water and soft drinks were available all day.
Our first presenter was Charley Banks, CFM (Certified Floodplain Manager) who is the Floodplain Program Engineer for the Virginia Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR). He gave a very detailed program on how to correctly fill out the FEMA Flood Elevation Certificate so that all the parties that use the form can use it to its fully intended use.
Charley is in the blue behind the I-beam at the screen. BL poster "Grey Wolfe" is in the Orange t-shirt there.

A few of us went to dinner after the classes and further discussed important topics of the day.

L-R, Back: Larry Phipps, President of Land Surveyor's Workshops, Steve Douty, LS - Vice President of Western Chapter VAS
We had a great day talking shop, sharing war stories and being around other surveyors that we respect. It was a great day! Look for more seminars in the near future from the Western Chapter if you need more hours.

That was mentioned at our table more than once. My table had the ages of 37, 37, 44, 33. Probably the youngest by far... and I'm the one that's 44.

It was a great class filled with some really nice people.
I am honored to have been invited. (Thank you Carl for putting in a good word and thanks for anyone else who also helped make it happen.)
Dinner after the meeting was terrific. Highly recommend spending some time hanging out with Steve, Carl and Jessica (or any combination thereof).

Looks like a nice seminar!
Nice room and even nicer people!
I have a question though - What
did the back of the Tee shirt say
in the second picture? Just curious -
it had to be good!
I want someone like that watching my back too!
Semper Fi!

It was a good group. Broken down and everybody gone in less than 20 minutes.
And Stephen nailed it (the shirt).
