Hi,

Trying to run Leica TC 805 total station (big brick / old style) with Viva CS15. Anyone ever got this to work by any chance?

Got the 1100 connected no problem with the Viva (talk about giving a second life to a piece of equipment!) But this old TC beast, still trying.

It must be a setting somewhere...maybe?

James,

The old TC series may still work with the drivers for say a TPS300 or TPS400 with the CS controller. The old TC series did use the GSI commands and they should be the same for the major commands such as measure, get angle, etc. for the newer TPS series. I am not sure but that is what you need to try.

Under the configuration menu on the TC instrument there should be a REC DATA option. This is where you should make the settings. On the Tc set this to:

DATOUT = RS232

FORMAT = this can be 8 or 16 (this really does not matter… this dictates the amount of significant digits for the exported coordinates within Leica)

BAUD – defaults to 4800
PARITY – defaults to EVEN
ENDMARK – defaults to CRLF – I would leave this at CR/LF

For the baud, parity,, and Endmark just make sure you set this are exactly the same on the CS controller when you are setting this up on the CS controller.
On the CS controller:

1. Main menu – select the Instrument icon
2. Next choose – Connections…
3. Next choose TPS Connect Wizard
4. First page – Manufacturer = Leica, Model = TPS300, Connect using cable
5. Next page for communication settings make sure these are the same as set on TC instrument… Stop = 1

This should make the connection work. One test you can do to test the port on the TC is to leave the instrument off… then try to make the connection to the instrument with the CS. The instrument should power on once the CS tries to connect. This only test the power pin on the port but it help to know that the cable and port should be working.

I have an old PDf of the manual for the TC8xx if you want it. Just email me if you want a copy.

Got it to work with Carlson SurvCE, got it to work with Trimble TSC2, no luck with Leica Viva CS15...COM port overflow even at lowest baud rate.

It plays nice with the neighbors but not his own brother :-/ (...)
