I just wanted to share, the SD Surveyors Society had their first mentorship program/lesson/experience this weekend and a fellow student and I were lucky enough to be a part of it. We went to the other side of the state to experience a mineral survey retracement (it was done previously but chosen due to some corner issues). The information shared by our mentors was incredible and it was great to be learning from people who are very passionate and knowledgeable about land surveying, as well surveying in mostly mowed grass with a babbling brook near one setup with cool temps, shade and a great place to sit and take field notes/sketches. I can say without a doubt that this experience has altered my view of surveying in a positive manner and has increased my desire to continue in the surveying profession.(although I still despise construction staking!). Here are a few pictures, including a couple original monuments (wood posts) and the new ones set in 1988 (alum disk on 30" alum pipe).

The rest of the pics.
