Another conference has come and gone; this one was one of the best.
Each conference is unique:
New memories are made.
If you are like me and have a hard time retaining more than 10% of what you learn; you get to pick up another 10%:-D.
You meet new people and people you haven't seen in a long time.
You get to talk to people and exchange ideas, where any other day, you don't get a chance to.
You get a chance to see all the latest equipment; hands on, all in one place.
Distinguished, accomplished, masters of surveying are honored; new leadership is put in place.
The surveying community is drawn together and the future is molded for the next generation to take over.
This year they got John Stahl to come back. If you haven't had Mr. Stahl come to one of your conferences, I would strongly recommend it. His material is put together like a book; his presentation has all the details in an easy to follow format; the subject matter is always looked at with an open mind and you can see the logic that should be in every survey decision you make.
If there is one thing I got out of John's lectures: is that it doesn't matter where we set our corners; we can set them precisely; we can set them with error, either intentionally or blunder; we can accept or reject any evidence we find.
What matters is; what happens when we walk away; how the people react to our services is what matters the most.
Thank you John; you provide a great service to our industry; please keep fighting the good fight!
And I got to meet Ken Jennings!

Did you notice the excited look on my face! :woot:
I hope everyone enjoyed a great conference this year, I know I did.
Doug Casement, PLS
Gavin - Thank you mentioning the students! I have been lurking the forums for quite some time but felt I should finally post.
I am a part of the RTC class that volunteered this year. We are really lucky to be able to do so and see all the great speakers and be able to mingle with the best of them.
There really are a lot of students in need of mentoring which we actually discussed in the FIG Young Surveyors class at the conference. We will be focusing on better means of communication between students and professionals.
But to get back on track, the conference was a great event and I learned a lot from it. We even got set up a North/South base line using a T2 and solar observation to help prepare for Tim Kent's Solar Instruments Class. We then did a star shot with Polaris. Great experience.
Gavin's talk with Larry Signani regarding WSRN was outstanding. Thank you!
