I want to thank the Southwest Chapter of the Professional Land Surveyors of Colorado for their two day conference a couple of weeks ago.
I had the pleasure of listening to Gene Kooper for 8 hours on mineral surveys, mining claims and the nuances associated therewith. I don't think my lungs are good enough to work at the altitudes he does. I can't imagine finding the MS corners he finds without GPS. I'm 100% sure that this type of work took LOT longer back in the days before GPS.
I also heard Randy Bloom of the Denver regional BLM office speak about the new manual. His nicely done 4 hours gave everyone in the room a lot to think about. Gonna have to buy me one of them newfangled Manuals to see for myself what the fuss is about....
And I also heard Dave Minkle, the NGS Geodetic Advisor for Arizona, speak about CORS, OPUS and the NGS in general. Also very informative to me.
Larry Phipps was also there, but I didn't have a chance to hear his lectures. I listened to him a bit during lunch and breaks. I've made a mental note to attend one of his talks next time I have the opportunity.
Chapter President Rob Trudeaux and his crew created a great atmosphere for the conference. Thanks a bunch to everyone involved!
