For those interested, this December 5th marks the 200th anniversary of the first PLSS corner in Missouri. There is a little celebration taking place to commemorate.
There will be a group from the StL Chapter of MSPS driving down and I am sure there will the others in attendance.
See attached flyer.
Looks like an interesting place to visit. Like a lot of the important PLSS corners in our fair country, boots are required for the annual "renewing of the flagging and paint" ceremony. For this one I think I'd carry a machete and a can of Deep Woods Off.
Technically speaking, it was placed in Missouri Territory, not the State of Missouri.
"The Territory of Missouri was an organized incorporated territory of the United States that existed from June 4, 1812 until August 10, 1821."

I've picked ticks off my ass in January down here. No kidding.
I flew in to Seattle; August 1990. I remember looking down for the first time and thinking; look at all that water! The bugs are going to be horrible!
I had grown up in eastern Nebraska and had been a surveyor there for 15 years. I had endured a lot of days dealing with bugs and was sure that it was only going to get worse.
After a few months, I began to notice the great LACK of bugs. Most windows didn't have screens; I wasn't constantly swatting at something; grasshoppers weren't ricocheting off me every time I walked through an unkempt area, it was awesome! And no ticks! Living in LaPlatte with 3 little kids; 15 flies came in, every time the screen door opened.
I have very little to complain about; Living here. But don't tell anyone; they like to keep it a secret.:clap:B-)
