Anyone going next month?
I went for the first time last year. Lots of cool tech to be sure, but I really enjoyed the sessions. Wide range of topics with some really top-notch presenters. A sizable chunk of them were not Trimble employees, but practitioners willing to share their methods and workflows with attendees. I attended an excellent session put on by @john-hamilton on EDM calibration and data reduction.
As much as I enjoy boundary and ROW surveying, state conferences tend to be pretty light on advanced technical matters, and especially on emerging technologies and innovation, and how they are impacting our profession. Last year was an eye-opener for me, and I consider myself pretty in-the-know when it comes to tech.
I was really struck by the extent to which the heavy civil construction industry drives new tech development - especially how much they are willing to invest in new technology in order to obtain lots of savings down the road.
It was a little unsettling, though not surprising, to see how certain technologies and workflows have already been tested and adopted in other parts of the world (in some cases for many years), and then come back to work and see an Outlook invite for a meeting about "preparing for the future" concerning the same topics.
Anyways, I'll be there, attempting to be in three different sessions at once.
Can't say I'm going but I did add it to the RPLS.com Calendar. 🙂
Thanks, Wendell! Should have thought to add it myself.
I have not been to a dimension in years. I enjoyed them for sure. I am not a gambler so all the casino stuff was just a bunch of noise. Some cool shows and good food. Great classes. I always had the hardest time deciding on which ones to attend. I did 2005ish through 2009ish. If memory serves me. I still have a superman trimble t shirt a fleece or two. And some knowledge in my head somewhere lol. Y’all enjoy. Great place great contacts to meet up with and get to know. I would like to attend one again but not in the cards this year. Cattle farm surveying kids FFA 4h. Studying for exams. The list goes on and on. Oh i recommend if you have not stay an extra day or go a day early and visit hoover damn. I love going through the tour. Seeing those photos of surveyors with transits plumb bobs setting up on a slope fixed tripod legs. And now we can jab a r12i tip through a tight spot and get a position. Those old crusty surveyors man they had skills out of this world. I sure wish we could go back in time to pick their brains.
I will be there, I am presenting on ECEF coordinate system
