I have been tasked with finding some Civil 3D training for my group. We are working in the in the tunnel division of a project that involves highway, bridge, and tunnel construction. Beyond the typical construction tasks there is specific interest in surfaces and volumes associated with roading.

The gentlemen that I am working with are experienced surveyors and are well versed in cad/surveying software across a number of platforms but not Civil 3D or LDD, they are accustomed to working either with vanilla cad or some collection of European programs. My experience is mainly field but I have some experience and a technical school degree in civil engineering graphics, so no one is starting right from zero.

The idea is to take some sort of course that comes with a certificate at the end but maybe not a full academic course. I am interested in the Autodesk certification and would like to know if anyone here has any experience or input on that.

So far one resource I have found is Autodesk Training Materials (ascented.com)?ÿ

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I found our vender support company to be absolutely amazing.

Ping me so I don't swindle Wendell out of good ad revenue.

If they don't already advertise here already.

All I can say is to contact the developers and as for a list of certified trainers.?ÿ Depending on the depth of power you are using it for, access has to be limited to those fully trained.

I once worked for a company who got into Civil 3D early and learned the intricacies of the program with liked H & V info, the Engineer started jumping in and playing, changing things and saving their changes, resulting in hours of end of fixing the design.?ÿ In a short time frame, all access to CAD was cut off to the PEs and me to prevent that from happening again.?ÿ I can't blame them but had my own lap top with CAD and Carlson to cercumvent their system so I could do my own calcs instead of standing over the shoulder of my tech and telling him to try this or that.?ÿ

The Ascent book on C3d for Surveying was useful to me. Not a perfect resource, but useful.?ÿ

Look for Rick Ellis's book "A Practical Guide to Autodesk Civil 3d" as well. AAMOF, Rick will provide custom training, if you have budget for that.?ÿ Back on February 28, 2001 Rick came to our office and gave us a kick start into LDD. I remember because the session was interrupted when the room started to move around rather dramatically.?ÿ
