Looking for resources and methods for training on boundary surveying. Metes-and-Bounds and retracing sub-divisions, etc. Not looking for PLSS info.?ÿ Thank you!
I recommend reading an early edition of Boundary Control & Legal Principles.?ÿ Not the more recent editions - too long winded. Easily obtained from on-line sources for a few bucks.?ÿ
Then there are the CALTRANS videos. Downloadable.
After that, there is RPLStoday.
?ÿ
Start at the beginning, like they do in law school.?ÿ History is the foundation of all boundary law and can't be understood without knowing where it came from and how it developed, and hence where it may be headed.?ÿ White's book on history of the PLSS.?ÿ Linklator's measuring America.
Then grab a topic from the secondary resource of your choice, print out some cases from your jurisdiction on said topic, make lesson plans from the fact patterns and decisions of those cases.?ÿ Keycite the cases for further discussion on how they have been treated in other jurisdictions.?ÿ Show how similar the law is across the country and how plss rules/statutes developed from experience in the colonial states and England.
Can hardly train boundary law in the US while ignoring plss, or surrounding colonial states for that matter.
