Greetings from TX
I joined the group a few weeks ago and have been meaning to introduce myself, so here goes. My name is Greg and am currently living in the Houston, TX area (lived in Reno, NV previously). I’ve been working as a manufacturing engineer (emphasis in mechanical CAD design & CAM programming) for several years. The precision manufacturing/machining world has been fun and the creativity allowed is great but I decided last November it was time to look for a change. Considered a few different directions I could go and ultimately decided on surveying. I’m enrolled in Great Basin College’s land surveying program (BAS) and can’t wait to get started in another 3 weeks. Anyways, that’s my story, at least for now. Looking forward to learning all I can from the members & dialogs on Surveyorconnect (and hopefully contributing sooner than later)!

Welcome. As you have already discovered in your first few weeks here, this is a great place to hang out. Sure, it’s been a bit slow over the holidays but it will pickup up by about Wednesday. Most everyone will be overwhelmed the first couple of days back to normal responsibilities.
Almost any question will get an answer……or 40 different ones.

Hello from West Texas! Just curious if you have looked into the Geomatics program at Texas A&M Corpus Christi?

I’m guessing that since you are enrolled at GBC that the NM board will recognize the degree program they offer? Curious to know because I have a co-worker looking at getting licensed and we are trying to find a degree program for him.

Cyril, I did petition the NM board and they reviewed and stated they would accept the degree from GBC. I am almost done so I can start the process of getting my licensure in NM. Even better news for the GBC program is the program should be ABET certified soon. I would highly recommend the program. It is tough but have enjoyed almost every class.
