Field guy sent me a pic of a drill hole he found set in a track. It's referenced on a plan from 15 or 20 years ago. Checked out of position a couple of tenths, he said.

If the track gets much use, it's a surprise it didn't move more than that or get replaced.
And I wonder what kind of drill bit took how long to make that hole.

It's not my project,so I don't know for sure, but judging by the rust on the rail, and the buildup of hummus below, it looks like it hasn't been maintained for a few decades.

Could be. Massachusetts is littered with unused, discontinued and abandoned rail ways. I even found some rail and an old boiler near a hiking trail next to the Sudbury Reservoir. Did a little research and found out the contractors used carts on rails and steam engines (stationary, I belive) to haul the muck out of the areas they were digging for the reservoir.
