I have been researching my Topcon Tools USB key issue, and thanks to many of the replies to my last post, it appears that there is a difference in the hardware for the usb key between the 32 bit and 64 but usb keys.
I am currently running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on my field laptop. XP mode is not available in this version. I have never used XP mode, so my question is, does the XP mode allow 32 bit hardware to function in a 64 bit environment?
I have thought about upgrading to Windows 7 Professional, which would be pretty affordable, which would include the XP mode. I have also seen where some people have used VirtualBox on their machines, and installed Windows XP. I have the OEM disk that came with my old desktop that is retired, and only fired up once in a blue moon.
I have also seen a few other options similar to the VirtualBox option as well.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I upgraded my Win 7 Home Premium 32 bit to Win 7 Professional a couple of years ago. I just clicked on the Windows Upgrade function and Microsoft did the rest. Went without any glitches and the cost was pretty reasonable it seems. As far as a Windows XP mode, there is none. You would have to do a Virtual Machine set up and then load in the XP system.

I have windows 7 ultimate64 bit & i downloaded the virtual machine/xp mode from microsoft. I am able to use legacy softwathat won't install properly in native 7 64 mode.
Problem is when in 7 native mode, you can't access files in xp mode. You have to transfer files from win 7 directory into xp mode directory. When you are done with your xp software, you then have to transfer your files back into win 7 directory. I don't have to tell you that several times I was working on a file in win 7 mode and it was not what was updated in xp mode. That's the only downside of the wirtual machine setup.

After the upgrade, you can download Windows XP Mode without charge.
