We are looking at 12"+ inches of snow and high winds the next 36 hours. It's to begin late this afternoon. Before DIA was opened relatives of mine were stuck in Stapleton Airport for 4 days over Christmas. They never did get out through the airport. They got to the bus station and caught a bus to Cheyenne where I picked them up. All the highways were cleared but Stapleton was still shut down. THE WORST AMERICAN AIRPORT EVER! DIA is better but still not great. Minneapolis is the best in my opinion. I've been there with 12 inches of new snow, still snowing and no delays.

Isn't this more than just a question of snow removal? And aren't many delays not the fault of the departing airport at all?

After all, as an example, this week many travelers leaving western cities were stranded because the airport they were HEADED TO on the east coast was closed.

Indeed, just look at Orlando International Airport for confirmation.

Yes, you're absolutly correct. Weather at one airport can affect flights all over the country. But some airports just handle snow better. Of course, some weather is just impossible to deal with, such as fog or intense rainstorms and grounding flights in Chicago or Atlanta can back things up everywhere.
