Older vehicles were easy, point and go (or don't go, sometimes). I've had since new a 2006 Honda CRV. I really like it, it's all-wheel drive and goes like a tank, but only if I remember to turn off the traction control. It seems like I always forget at least once per winter to turn it off. Modern traction control is useless on snow and ice. We haven't had much snow in the past few years, so I haven't been buying snow tires & I just stay home it it gets too deep.

It depends on the vehicle. Some of them just about kill the power when its left on, some others not so much. Also some of them you can turn them off, but it doesn't really turn them off.

Mine just seems to kill the power, both with the brakes and limiting RPMs. If I get to spinning/revving too much it will actually turn it back on!

Another vote for turning traction control off!!!

Some cars let you "turn it off" more than others.

I almost got stuck in a new truck not knowing about the traction control. I was approaching a mud hole on a site and knew I needed some speed to get through it. As soon as all four tires got in and slipped a little the engine de-rated and I came to a crawl. Luckily I made it out, but it almost got me stuck. I'm not a big fan of the auto manufacturers big brothering to that extent.... It would be nice if it was an option to purchase a vehicle without it.

Was trying to pull a neighbor out of a snow drift yesterday with my GMC 2500 4wd. Couldn't pull him, so drove home and got the tractor. Dawned on me about half way back that I hadn't turn the traction control off. Might have got him otherwise. Traction control will get you stuck. It had been awhile since I had needed to turn it off and I forgot about it.
