Thought I would check and see what the wind chill was today. All I know is it was just miserably cold out there today. Wind was around 40mph with temp hovering around 10d F. The National Weather Service now has a new and old wind chill calculator. At the above temps and wind speed I couldn't tell the difference between 16 below and 38 below. Warmer climates of lower latitudes near Austin were contemplated many times today as one made sure not to open the doors of the truck with the wind direction, which would necessitate a call to the local body shop to fix'em. Some days it would be nice to stay in a warm bed.....I'm still thawin out with a shot of Makers Mark.

Yes, the wind chill was a problem in Austin today, also. The mercury plunged to 69°F, then rose to 82°F with the wind gusting to 3 knots. Heat index of 78. Without air-conditioning, a person wouldn't last for very long before reaching for ice water or a Dos Equis.

We had a cold front come right out of the Gulf of Alaska. Low of 30 last night. A chilly day (for California).

My brother drove through that 40 mph wind earlier today. You just needed to get a bit north and it calmed down.
We lost our clouds last night and woke up at -15. Sweet! and that wasn't wind chill.
Burrrr.

The (General lack of)wind factor is one of the things I enjoy about the Flathead more so than when i lived on the east side. The downside is you don't have that much sun in the winter.

My dad was raised here but can't stand it- he sez "give me the wind any time- I like to see the Sun everyday"- down there on the flats around Dillon- 15 mph winds are considered calm.

Better enjoy it Kent. We now have winds at 41 mph with the temps just slightly below freezing. They say teens for tonight. This front is heading south so your weather will likely take a nose dive as well.

Why don't we ever hear of wind chill in the summer? No, they had to come up with the misery index to account for humidity. Because people like to complain, that's why.

Dave - To me, it's the other way around. I know I'm flirting with a category police crackdown, but if I had absolute power to create a planet, I'd invent a little better thermostat.

Yes I knew that but I guessed that you were confused by the Fahrenheit temperature. Obviously if it ever gets up to 65C outside then we are in real trouble.

😉
