These guys live within 20 miles of me, mainly in Boulder Junction and St. Germain, Wisconsin.
It's quite an experience to see them while working in the field!
I have seen a white deer here locally. It was however only mostly white with a portion of the flank with more normal coloration.
I have seen one, several times, west of Edmond, OK.
They are absolutely stunning, beautiful creatures. No offense to you deer hunting guys but it is nice to see that they are protected and cannot be shot. 🙂
I saw that clip a couple of weeks ago.
They are albino's, having pink eyes. Most wildlife programs eliminate them as a genetic mistake. If not protected, their average life in the wild is less than 3 years, IIRC.
Theres a good heard of them in Romulus, N.Y. at an army base. If I remember correctly they said they were a result of inbreeding???
I have only ever seen one in my lifetime, it was standing along one of the interstate highways when I lived in Pennsylvania. I thought it might be a once in a lifetime experience, glad I was wrong.:-)
Gordon what you describe sounds like what is called a piebald deer.

I saw a piebald doe in the woods 2 years ago. The property owner who had given me permission to hunt had seen her before and ask me not to shot her. I saw her one morning for just a few seconds and felt really neat to see such an oddity of nature. A couple of weeks later a relative of the owner shot her. From what I understand they a bi-product of poor genetics. Cool to see for sure, too bad she got wacked.
Yes You must have the right term, although the one I saw was almost entirely white.
