Sorry to hear Brian has left us.?ÿ I took me a while to conger up all my memories of Dennehy's characters over the years.?ÿ But I settled on his role as "Rosy Little" in the film Never Cry Wolf as my favorite.
"Rosy" was a rough bush pilot in Alaska.?ÿ "Tyler", a young research student played by Charles Martin Smith, had hired Rosy to fly him and his equipment into the bush for an extended stay to study wolves.?ÿ Rosy flew a multi-color Dehavilland Beaver that had seen better days.?ÿ If I remember correctly it was missing the engine cowling.
Anyway, in the midst of navigating the plane through a visually obscure mountain pass, Rosy explains to Tyler that boredom is what kills people.?ÿ Boredom like sitting in front of a TV.?ÿ Then the plane's engine sputters and dies.?ÿ The young research is mortified.?ÿ Rosy dumps a tool box out in a rage and grabs a spanner.?ÿ He explains that adventure is what keeps people alive.?ÿ
As Tyler is instructed to 'keep the wings level' (he's never flown in his life) Rosie exits the plane to walk on the wing strut and use the wrench to switch fuel tanks.?ÿ He gets back in plane and fires up the engine, just in time to barely miss a snow covered mountainous rock escarpment.
That was a great Dennehy scene.
Silverado. All of it.
Never liked the jerk. He LIED about serving in the Military and being in Vietnam.
I have NO respect for him.

JOHN NOLTON
Vietnam VET
He did? I never heard this before. This troubles me as he was one of the actors I respected. I loved his work in the "Cocoon" movies. I'd hate to think he was another Jane Fonda. 🙁
He lied? or a press agent sent out a blurb with nonsense in it, as they do every day, and have for the past century. Which is it, and there is a huge difference.
From the IMDB: He served in the US Marine Corps, but contrary to previous press releases never saw any combat nor was he wounded.?ÿ
It is all over the net that he apologized for his claims in 1998, but later made them again. I haven't tried to track down anything authorative. Wikipedia has a source but you need to log in to see it.
The greatness of someone's work and their personal honor are independent variables and should be judged that way. We are all multifaceted and not properly evaluated as just a sum of parts or a minimum of the facets.
I'm with Paden on Never Cry Wolf.?ÿ That one got me.
?ÿ
Here's a piece of trivia generally missed about Brian Dennehy.?ÿ He was in the 2018 movie, "Tag", but was not credited for his role as Randy's father.?ÿ Randy was one of the five crazy guys who had started an unending game of tag many years earlier in their youth.?ÿ The movie was made about the true story of ten guys who actually did this.?ÿ One of those ten guys was named Brian Dennehy.?ÿ No defecatory material.?ÿ Truth.
Rambo wondering thru the Pacific Northwest
He clearly brought that misunderstanding upon himself by thinking John Rambo a hippie and unfit human.
