Starting in 1970 this was probably the most commonly played song at weddings.

That same year The Carpenters also put out this jewel:

It was very close to this date in 1970 when I met the 14 year-old girl that would become the mother of my three daughters.?ÿ It was precisely 51 years ago today when we stood in front of the preacher and said "I do".?ÿ It was a bit less than 14 years later when we met with a judge and said "I don't".?ÿ We are still on good terms, although we only see each other a few times per year at family gatherings and such.?ÿ Damn, she has grown old. ???? ?ÿ I haven't changed a bit.?ÿ Looking like Santa Claus at 16 was a bit rough on me, I must admit. ????ÿ

The Wedding Song (There is Love) by Paul Stookey was the number one song at weddings in the 1970s. An Episcopalian clergyman I knew told how sick he was of hearing it, for Gawd??s sakes pick something else.
I married my first wife almost 39 years ago. We are still married.
You may find this odd but I have heard this song at funerals and other church related occasions more than at weddings.?ÿ It is a beautiful song by Peter of Peter, Paul and Mary fame.?ÿ Note in the opening frame of this link that he wrote and performed this for the first time on July 23, 1971, the day before my first wedding.?ÿ If we had any music at that wedding, I have not a clue what it would have been other than Here Comes the Bride.?ÿ It only took eight minutes to get married in that simple ceremony.?ÿ Years later our time with the judge to officially dissolve the union took approximately eight minutes as we had everything worked out in advance, including my having primary custody and her paying child support, while I took on all of our existing debts.
We had no music at my second wedding as we were out in the middle of the college campus we had both attended, with a justice of the peace saying the magic words.?ÿ We had no permission to use the site we chose.?ÿ We just gathered, said all the right words and departed.?ÿ No fuss, no muss.
For those who clearly (sort of) remember 1970.
This is a list of?ÿBillboard?ÿmagazine's Top?ÿHot 100?ÿsongs of the year 1970.[1]?ÿIt covers from January 3 to November 28, 1970.[2]
@holy-cow no self respecting Episcopalian would process to the Wedding March.
Clarke??s Trumpet Voluntary is usually preferred??
Purcell??s Trumpet Tune & Air is often used for the recessional.
My uncle married three times.?ÿ Outlived them all.?ÿ His first wedding was in 1936 to my mother's sister who died in 1964.?ÿ His second wedding was in 1965 (he was her fourth husband, the other three had died).?ÿ His third wedding was in 1998 when he was 82 years old.?ÿ Can you imagine the differences in the popular songs that might have been played at each wedding?
I dated a gal that had already been married four times.?ÿ She eventually found number five.?ÿ He died about six months ago, so I suppose she's looking for number six right now.
?ÿso I suppose she's looking for number six right now.
Ummm....., how much money does she have, and can she cook? ?????ÿ
(if she is super rich, disregard the cooking part)
@flga-2-2?ÿ
Very fine cook.?ÿ Only rich if her last husband left her that way.?ÿ None of the others did.
The standard joke was that she had daily sex for 15 years.?ÿ Husband #3 had the surname Daly, pronounced daily.?ÿ Husband #2 had the best name but he died far too young in a highway accident that he didn't cause.?ÿ His surname was Hereford.
...I haven't changed a bit.?ÿ Looking like Santa Claus at 16 was a bit rough on me, I must admit.
Just for fun I googled "Santa Claus at 16" and came up with this image:
I guess his beard turned white later in his life..
?ÿ
That would be more like 18.?ÿ A light purple shirt and white tie.?ÿ The reddish-blonde mustache was quite the contrast to the dark hair elsewhere.?ÿ Appears to be Wanted Poster material.?ÿ I was far too poor to buy the book in which that photo appeared.
?ÿ
@flga-2-2?ÿ
She'll wanna know how much insurance you have.
I guess his beard turned white later in his life..
Unc, that pic looks like Ted Bundy's pic at the Post Office around the same time....... ?????ÿ

Awww man.... ?§?§?§ Sniffles ?§?§?§
You have me in tears over here.?ÿ
You would never have known this, but... this was the song my mom dedicated to me when I was born. It was just her and I and that's how she felt about it..."We've Only Just Begun". I can still feel her in my heart, singing it to me. ???¬
After she died, I spent 6 weeks slowly going through her stuff. I found her original 45 of this song in her record collection! It now sits in my glass cabinet. (Pic attached!)
I miss my parents so much... Dads birthday was on Monday. Today I have been daydreaming about the good ol' times with my parents, wondering if they have any idea how much I love and miss them????ÿ
Then I go about my day, hop online, and come and check in. I see this post. There's my sign from my mom. ?
Dang.?ÿ I'm sorry, Angel.?ÿ But, it's a good sorry in your case.
