I am cheap and still use Adobe pro 7, and LDD 2006. They both ran without a hitch. So far everything is going smoothly. I can't believe it. Well the day ain't over I still have time to be run over by a garbage truck on the way home this evening. 😉

Just wait until your start menu quits working at random times.

YES, happens to me regularly. As a mater of fact the entire taskbar at the bottom just quits working at times, and I have to save everything and reboot. Frustrating.

I will have to log this one in the back of my mind so that when it starts happening to me, I might remember that I heard it first, right here at beer leg dot com.

It's garbage day here, too; knock on wood...

I don't believe that I will ever need Win10 for simply this site and some FTP downloads from TxDot for static work and to read and send emails from my desktop.
My phone does all that and more........
All my actual work is done on XPs and that is not going to change.
In the process of getting two backup XPs in the works when the heat takes out the ones I have.
The Pentium 4 in that 775? slot runs very hot and can blow a circuit.

Turn off automatic updates and make sure the KB3035583 update file does not get on your computer.
Update will put it back every time unless you deselect it or uninstall it from your computer when it does.
It is the file that keeps installing Win10.

🙁

I received a laptop with Windows 10 a couple weeks ago, and there are definitely compatibility issues with TBC. I was able to run adjustments on V10 data - very fast I might add - but as soon as I tried to calculate any manual tie point or photo point it crashed. I'm not opposed to upgrading to it but not until I'm 100% confident that I'll be able to get my work done.

Kinda figures.

Interesting excerpt from your link,

"Windows 10 spies on you and even more so on your children aka phones home (welcome NSA/CIA/thoughtcrime/1984)! Microsoft added spying features to Windows 7/8 as well (more general list). Microsoft officially admits that automatic spying cannot be disabled in Windows 10."

This is going on "Things that make you go Hmmmmm" list for sure. 😉

I found that page, too, but it seems that the support is limited to 32-bit systems. When I tried installing the driver recommended for my LJ-4, I got a message saying it's not compatible with my 64-bit system. I note that the driver file is dated 2006.

Fortunately, a few months ago a friend gave me a 2003-era LaserJet 4250 -- which uses PCL6 -- and it installed without issue, so I can still print.

FWIW, Just because I'm hard-headed I went to Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Devices and Printers, Add a Printer, The printer that I want isn't listed, Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings, Use an existing port: (LPT1), ........This brings you to the screen where you'd normally select a printer manufacturer and printer or pick Have disk, instead, click the Windows Update button. After several minutes of appearing to be locked up, the list will refresh. Now under HP there should be several LJ-4 models (4, 4 plus, 4/4m, 4l, 4m, etc. This is on Win10-64. I don't have an HP Lj-4 or I'd do a bit more testing. Might be worth investigating if you still have the LJ-4 and supplies sitting around.

Well, I'll be darned -- I haven't tested the install yet (I moved the LJ4 out of the way to make room for the LJ4250), but at least it found a driver it seemed to like.

There's also a DesignJet 430 in the Windows Update list. It might be worth having my 450C available as a B&W plotter.

Let us know if it ultimately works.....I think that the "windows update" button that they added is the key. I suspect that they only load the most popular drivers in the basic install, or the additional drivers were added after the initial build of Win10.
