what happens to a guitar or drum that has been immersed? are they salvage-able?
i remember hearing about packing the guitars in old bread to slowly draw the moisture out
this is my friend's apartment in the news story:
I don't know about guitars or drums but I do know (don't even ask HOW I know) that a cell phone that has been submerged can be salvaged by keeping it packed in rice for a couple of days.

If that was his Gibson, the electronics are going to take a heavy hit. Packing them in a large bag filled with wood shavings (stall bedding available at Tractor Supply) will suck all of the moisture out, though he may have to change the shavings a few times. When Nashville went underwater (and the Gibson factory), Gibson was taking guitars to a big chipper, one after another. There was something about contaminated water and E-coli counts being too high. I would gladly have taken a few and scrubbed them out.
You'd think the cheap ones would get all warped and that any laminates would buckle and peel. But apparently, if its a high quality guitar, they say it should come through fine. It may be helpful to remove the strings before allowing it to completely dry out
