Okay, I used one of these in the not too distant past - I also sell on the site, and this made me laugh and cry at the same time 😛 (this is not my listing btw).

Julie,
Whoever wrote that description would have made a great party chief.
I've never looked at the level rod in quite that light 🙂
And, at 160" I think it is missing a section :-O The one I used was a 20' level rod.
Fabulous industrial decor piece. I have more of these for use in wall unit construction, display, etc. Would make a unique child's growth chart.
made me chuckle
The obsolete comment made me chuckle.
Use to call this a philly rod.
Not a "Philly" rod, it is a "Frisco" rod.
Correct. Philly is a two section rod.
Andy
Good catch...did not realize 3 sections.
The first rod I carried, circa 1963, was described to me as a Philly rod. It had no sliding mechanism at all, just loose sections that fit together with brass sockets, very well made. That one had three sections, about 4 feet each.
I wonder if they noticed that it had larger inches with only 10 per foot. 😉 ....

I doubt it 😛 - I used to pinch the heck out of my fingers with that thing.
Think the Philly rod we used was about 12 feet extended and the Frisco was around 15 feet. Extreme grade differences we took the Frisco, for normal use it was the Philly. For blue tops and such, it was the lenker. I pinched my fingers a few timeS on the fiber glass 25 foot rods.

I think it must have been a Frisco 15' rod that I used, all I remember is that it was about as tall as me when it was not extended.
If this is an antique, then I must be as well.
I have two "Frisco" rods, one is 12' and the other is 15' when all the way out. They are both 2-section sliding & locking rods. The "Philly rod was 13.4'± when fully extended and was a two section sliding & locking rod.
