I mean Historical simulation board gamers?

I used to play in my younger years, Avalon Hill that is. D-Day, Stalingrad. Afrika Corps, and Gettysburg among my favorites.

Recently a few of us started playing Risk but very quickly transmognified into Columbia Games, Gettysburg, Badges of Courage.

Very fun game once you get a grip on the rules. "Fog of War" is anew concept to me, as is the initiative roll. The pieces are such that you can stand them up so the other player can't see what is there until an attack. The initiative roll determines who goes first each turn.

Any other Ubernerds in here that play? Whats' your game?

Is Avalon Hill still in business? Back in the day I played Gettysburg when the board had squares not octagons.

I play the oldest War game I know of. It is now called chess. I have been told that the original name in the original language translates into War.

 😛

Floyd: I don't think that Avalon Hill is still in business. But there are a million other companies now. I started with Tactics II and moved up from there. Tactics I had squares, too, more of a collectors item than a playable game once II came out. Gettysburg with squares? You're an antique! LOL

Stephan: I, too, play chess on a regular basis, but I don't consider a historical simulation 🙂
